Texas Historical Newspapers: 1836-1985

Students of Texas history now have access to Texas Historical Newspapers with full-text articles from 41 Texas newspapers published between 1836 and 1985. The collection includes newspapers from major cities, such as Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Galveston, Houston, and San Antonio, as well as smaller towns like Clarksville, Huntsville, Nacogdoches, and Palestine. It even includes one issue of the early Spanish-language newspaper, Gaceta de Texas (1813). Coverage of the Dallas Morning News extends from 1885 to 1985. Overall, Texas Historical Newspapers has strong coverage of newspapers from the periods of the Texas Republic, early statehood, Reconstruction, and the early twentieth century.

American Antiquarian Society Historical Periodicals: 1691-1820

We are pleased to introduce the American Antiquarian Society Historical Periodicals Collection: 1691-1820, a new EBSCOHost database with full-text magazines from this early period of American history. The collection includes 550 publications imported by the colonists or published on American soil. The full text of each document is presented with a unique viewer that makes it easy to navigate across a page or zoom-in on hard-to-read passages. The AAS Historical Periodicals Collection is part of a new product line from EBSCOhost that will focus on historical publications. The next release in this product line, the Arte Publico Hispanic Historical Collection: Series 1, will be available here at UHD in September 2009. Here is a Sales Demonstration.

New Journals in Social Sciences & Humanities

This month the library added more than 900 journals in the Social Sciences and the Humanities as part of an ongoing initiative to build strong journal collections in all subjects taught at UHD. We expect to purchase more new journals in the fall, so please send us your recommendations.

JSTOR - New Journal Collections

The library has just purchased three new journal collections from JSTOR. As with all JSTOR collections, each one provides backfiles of top scholarly journals beginning with the earliest published issue but excluding current issues published in the past 3-5 years. Arts & Sciences V and Arts & Sciences VIhave 240 journals in the humanities and social sciences, with empahsis on art history, business and finance, economics, education, history, literature, linguistics, philosophy, and political science. The Life Sciences collection has 160 journals in biology, health, and general sciences. Journal titles include:

ARTstor: Images in Art & Architecture

The ARTstor databaseis the newest addition to our digital collections here at UHD. ARTstor is a digital library of nearly one million images in art, architecture, the humanities, and the social sciences. This database offers powerful tools help users make the best use of images for teaching and research. With these tools, it is easy to zoom in and pan images for greater detail; to build customized collections for classes; and to build shared folders that facilitate group projects and presentations. ARTstor is available now in the UHD Library Catalog and in the Databases & Articles section of the library web site.
