Cool blue beats the heat

Though it's a sweltering Houston summer outside, it's cool inside UHD's W.I. Dykes Library thanks to new blue panels surrounding the stairs linking the 4th and 5th floors. The splash of color is a welcome final touch to the 4th floor renovation project, seen below. UHD Library Stairway Closed Friday, June 12

The internal UHD Library stairway between the 5th floor and the 4th floor Library Computer Lab in the One Main Building will be closed on Friday, June 12, 2009 for construction. Access between the two levels of the Library will still be available via the stairs and elevators on the Main Street side of the building.

Pride Month Display in UHD Library

The W.I. Dykes library celebrates Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month with a book display just inside the 5th floor entrance to the library (1 Main Building).

Books for the display were selected to present a range of topics relating to LGBT issues, including history, sociology, law, literature, art, and children's books. The backdrop for the display bears definitions of LGBT related terminology, in order to broaden awareness of LGBT concepts and to promote discussion.

Biography Resource Center

The Biography Resource Center is now available in the Biography Databases section of the library website. Biography Resource Center contains more than 435,000 biographies on more than 340,000 people gathered from more than 1,000 volumes of more than 135 award-winning reference sources as well as full-text articles from magazines specifically chosen for their value to biographical research. Students can search the entire database by name, or use the Category Browse to find biographical profiles and other resources on individuals in more than 15 categories, such as athletes, world leaders, or cultural groups.

Library Event Room Now Open

The Library Event Room (420-North) is now available for reservations by members of the UHD community. The room seats about 50 people in theater-style chairs. The room is fully outfitted with computer and display technology. There is also an adjacent kitchen for serving small snacks.
